About

One of the UK’s first pasture raised egg producers, Rolling Eggs offers exceptional tasting eggs, animal welfare and sustainability. Our small flock roams freely across the lush pastures of Kingsclere Estates organic circular community.

What makes our eggs so good?

Small flocks living in mobile sheds that move every two days, our chickens spend their days following the cows on Kingsclere Estates.

This means they’re constantly grazing on fresh organic pasture, enjoying the grass, clover and chicory, as well as nutritious bugs and worms they find in the cow dung – just as nature intended.

Roaming outside for 8-12 hours a day, our birds are happier and healthier for it – which you’ll see in their lovely full feathers, and taste in our delicious eggs.

You’ll immediately notice the colour of our yolks – which are darker orange than supermarket eggs (but we don’t add any colourants to the organic grain the chickens eat).

And the taste?

Words don’t really cut it there… you just have to try them!

Sustainability

Rolling Eggs treads very lightly; we use just a small rechargeable 12v battery to light the sheds in the winter, and do everything by hand – from feeding the chickens to collecting the eggs.

Our chickens contribute to boosting Kingsclere Estates’ impressive biodiversity* and regenerating the soil’s health and fertility – so Kingsclere can grow fully organic quinoa, oats and linseed once we’ve moved on.

Rolling Eggs’ brilliant birds also help to keep the cows (our friends at The Roaming Dairy) healthy, and remove any need for fertilisers and chemical treatments.

Eliminating waste, our mixed weight egg boxes include both small pullet eggs (great for baking) and a decent mix of medium and large eggs.

*Working with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, Kingsclere Estates has seen how its herbal leys have led to an increase in the number of species on the land. A recent biodiversity count in one field found 68 different species (not including sown) – apparently, the Estate’s diversity score is high enough to give it national importance for conservation of arable flora!

Growing community

Kingsclere Estates operates a share farming system with its partners like us, which is great for helping young food and farming businesses and new entrants to the industry. Check out its Pitch Up! scheme for more info and opportunities to join this progressive circular community.

The whole estate is managed through regenerative agriculture practices, meaning the farming approach focuses on restoring soils that have been degraded by previous industrial agricultural systems. These methods promote healthier ecosystems by rebuilding soil organic matter through holistic farming and grazing techniques – in short, letting nature do the work.

Following the cows around has an added bonus as our chickens help to spread the manure across the field. The manure fertilises the plants, helping them to grow long, carbon-sequestering roots and nourishing the rhizosphere’s rich and vital ecosystem (did you know that over 95% of life on land lives in the soil?)

Delicious eggs + healthy communities = win, win
